Why Am I So Happy?

The sign of true success is a happy heart.

After nearly three decades running a restaurant, a woman who has weathered profound personal loss walks away from everything she built — and discovers, through an ailing dog and an ancient healing art, a second life as a nationally recognized voice for joy.

The Story

A life rebuilt around one question — and the answer that became a movement.

Paula Vail spent twenty-seven years behind the counter of her own restaurant — a life of long hours, hard-won stability, and quiet endurance through personal losses that would have broken many. When she finally sold the business, she faced the question so many face at midlife: what now?

The answer arrived on four legs. When her aging dog Shotzy began struggling to walk, a friend suggested Reiki — an energy-healing practice Paula had never heard of. What began as a last hope for a beloved pet became a calling. Paula trained from Sedona to Machu Picchu, became a Reiki Master and teacher, founded Wellness Inspired, and stepped into radio, television, and publishing — building a platform devoted to a single idea: happiness is a choice available to anyone, in any circumstance.

Her memoir-guidebook Why Am I So Happy? tells that story without sugarcoating it — the hardships, the reinvention, and the deliberate daily practice of joy. It is a story about the permission to begin again, told by a woman who did.

Act I · The Long Shift

Twenty-seven years of holding on

A restaurant owner builds a life through work and endurance while carrying private grief — success on paper, an unanswered question underneath.

Act II · Shotzy

An unlikely doorway

A failing dog, a stranger's suggestion, and a first encounter with healing that upends everything she believed about what her life was for.

Act III · The Second Life

From healer to national voice

Training across continents, a growing practice, an award-winning platform — and a book that turns one woman's reinvention into a roadmap for others.

Why It Adapts

Built for the screen — and arriving with its audience attached.

A true second-act story

Midlife-reinvention narratives led by women are among the most reliably resonant true-story properties — an intimate character arc with a clear transformation, told against tangible, filmable worlds: the restaurant floor, Sedona, Machu Picchu, the broadcast studio.

The wellness zeitgeist

Mind-body wellness, healing, and intentional happiness are mainstream cultural conversations. This property offers a grounded, personal way into that conversation — a real woman's story rather than an abstract trend piece.

An author who is already on camera

Paula is a working radio and TV host, speaker, and actress. She is promotable, interview-ready, and comfortable in front of audiences — a marketing asset most literary properties never come with.

Flexible formats

The material supports multiple lanes: a scripted inspirational biopic, a documentary or hybrid feature building on existing footage, or an unscripted series following healing and reinvention stories through Paula's practice and show.
